Malaysian Malay Women And Emigration!

I was bitterly disappointed when I read the local newspapers today that a total of 106,000 Malaysians had given up their citizenships between 1996 and April 2007. No… no… I’m not sad because they are leaving Malaysia or anything. I’m sad and disappointed because the number is smaller than I had expected! :)

According to the statistics released by the Malaysian Home Affairs Ministry, 70% or 79,100 of them are Malays, 25,107 are Chinese, 1,347 are Indians and the remaining numbers are some other minority Malaysian ethnic races. So far the top five destinations for our lucky Malaysians are US, Australia, Taiwan, Singapore and Indonesia. Indonesia! Wow! Malaysians would be instant millionaires if they carry all their Malaysian ringgit there! I gave my friend in the Home Affairs Ministry a call earlier today to confirm something and the answer that she gave me confirmed it! Majority of the Malays that left the country are women!

Maybe our Malaysian Malay women left this so called wonderful country because they are married to some foreigners. Either way around, I really envy them! Way to go Malaysian Malay women! I’m not ashamed to admit here today that I too do harbor some kind of hope that one day I would be able leave this country and start a new life some place else. Maybe I would go to UK and even perhaps Ireland. That’s me of course. :)

The government is playing down this matter as usual. One thing that they did not disclose to the press is the fact that every year the number of Malaysians giving up their citizenships is on the sharp rise! Why is this happening in the first place?

Simple and I don’t want to waste too much of your time explaining. Malaysia was a wonderful place to stay in the past, maybe in the 70s and early 80s. But today, Malaysia is a living hell full with political, economic and social messes and disasters. The ever increasing costs of living are simply unbearable for most unfortunate Malaysians. We are practically beggars in our own country!

By the way; if you too harbor some hopes of migrating to some other countries and later give up your Malaysian citizenship in the future, you have to consider the warning that the Malaysian Home Affairs Ministry have given today. If you give up your Malaysian citizenship, you can never get it back ever again! What a rule that was! Sounds a bit draconian, isn’t it? No wonder more and more Malaysians are leaving the country. :)

Current Malaysian Malay Moslem Women Fashion Trends VS Islam!

I came across a very interesting posting submitted by HarakahDaily Dot Net’s online reader identified simply by his or her pen name, Bekas Budak UKM. Well, Bekas Budak UKM raised some sensitive current issues regarding Malaysian Malay women and I hope that anyone reading this today would feed on whatever that I’m about to share here with an open mind.First of all, the letter submitted by Bekas Budak UKM to HarakahDaily Dot Net expressed the writer’s concern on the current fashion trends of Malaysian Malay women.

Some Malaysian Malay women wore short hijabs that did not really cover their ‘aurat’ fully. As matter of fact, their necks are exposed quite clearly.

Some Malaysian Malay women wore hijabs along with their short tee shirts and some are even sleeveless exposing their arms and shoulders. I think what Bekas Budak UKM meant was baby tees, camisoles, raglans and tank tops.

Some Malaysian Malay women wore hijabs along with their incredibly tight fitting jeans revealing the shape of their booties (pardon me for saying this) to everyone.

Bekas Budak UKM did mention a few more concerns but I’m only interested in the first three as mentioned above. For non-Malaysians and non-Moslems who are reading this today, you first must understand that majority (+90%) of Malaysian Malay women are born Moslems. Moslem women are required to cover every part of their body except their face and hands (from the tip of their fingers to the wrist joints) when they have reached puberty. Moslem women are also prohibited from dressing in garments that would reveal their bodily shapes and curvatures. Wearing transparent or thin clothing is also strictly prohibited in Islam.

In a sense, the letter submitted by Bekas Budak UKM is merely an eye opener. I’m a Moslem too and I do not have to be Holy Man to say that the trends of Malaysian Malay women today are not according to the ways of Islam. This is a worrying trend and I do share my concerns on the matter with many other concerned Moslems in Malaysia. Please do not ask me why Malaysian Malay women who are born Moslems behaves and dresses in such manner since I really do not have the answer. By right, every born Moslems here in Malaysia were exposed to some kind of basic Islamic education when they were young. Many were sent to religious teaching schools and were taught all about the Islamic way of life there.

I do wonder just how in the world did Malaysian Malay Moslem women got into this kind of mess in the first place. Were they influenced by the mass media such as television shows, movies and so forth somehow?

We could never find the answers alone. I truly hope that Malaysian Malay women would come forward and have their say in this matter. Smoking Causes Many Types Of Cancers In Women

The revelations about women smokers will give you a jolt. A woman loses, on an average, 15 years of her life whereas a man loses just over 13 years to a butt of cigarette. There is another startling, and horrifying revelation by the researchers and scientists. Using birth control pills and smoking are the double tragedies for women- the risk of heart attacks in such women is very high.

It is safe to conclude with a general statement that smoking causes many types of cancers in women. Smoking is not only dangerous for women; it is more dangerous for the coming generation. The risks of stillbirths, premature births and miscarriages are high for the smoking woman. Smoking also hastens the aging process in women!

What is Feminism?

Throughout history, women have always struggled to gain equality, respect, and the same rights as men. This has been difficult because of patriarchy, an ideology in which men are superior to women and have the right to rule women. What is feminism? By general definition, feminism is a philosophy in which women and their contributions are valued. It is based on social, political and economical equality for women. Feminists can be anyone in the population, men, women, girl or boys.

Feminism can also be described as a movement or a revolution that includes women and men who wish the world to be equal without boundaries. These boundaries or blockades are better known as discrimination and biases against gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status and economic status. Everyone views the world with his or her own sense of gender and equality. Feminists view the world as being unequal. They wish to see the gender gap and the idea that men are superior to women decreased or even abolished. There are many different types of feminist theory and each has had a profound impact on women and gender studies.

The first is cultural feminism, which is the theory that there are fundamental personality differences between men and women, and those women’s differences are special. This theory supports the idea that there are biological differences between men and women and sexism can be overcome by embracing the “women’s way.”

The second type is individualist or libertarian feminist. This feminism is based upon libertarian philosophies, with the focus on autonomy, rights, liberty, independence, and diversity. Next, there is the radical feminism; this theory began during the Sixties. This ideology focuses on social change, and “attempts to draw lines between biologically – determined behavior and culturally- determined behavior” in order to free both men and women as much as possible from their previous narrow gender roles.

Finally, there is liberal feminism, a theory that focuses on the idea that all people are created equal and that education is the primary means to change discrimination.
